In this session, we will guide you through the step-by-step process of making a scrunchie from start to finish. You’ll learn fundamental sewing techniques, including fabric preparation, stitching, turning, and inserting elastic, all while working on a project that’s both accessible and rewarding.
This workshop is designed for participants of all skill levels, whether you’re just beginning your sewing journey or looking to refine your existing skills with a quick and creative project. By the end of our time together, you will leave with a finished scrunchie and the confidence to continue exploring similar sewing projects on your own.
Fold your fabric in half lengthwise, right sides (the nice sides of the fabric) together.
You should now have a long skinny rectangle that is 2” x 22”.
Press the fold with an iron to help it lay flat.
Unfold the fabric. Place it right side up.
Fold one short edge in about ½ inch and press it (this will become the finished opening later).
Now, roll the long edge (the top layer only) toward the center like a little jellyroll or burrito.
With the roll in the center, take the bottom long edge of fabric and fold it over the roll so the two long edges are aligned.
Pin or clip along that long edge to hold it in place.
Look what you just made! You are one step closer to having your own show in Paris Fashion week!
Keep up the practice because you will see that every time you make another project, it is going to get better!
